Today started like any other Tuesday. Get up, shower, go to work. Then something happened at lunch that will forever remain in my head . . .
I picked up lunch at Panera Bread but on my way back to work I was sitting at a red light when I saw a couple on the side of the road. The woman was sitting in the grass with a dog and the man was standing next to a road holding a sign. I began to read the sign "homeless . . ." then the man turned the sign over where it read "
need smiles" and I looked at him and he was looking right back at me. I thought to myself,
"he can't be looking at me, I am 4 lanes over", but I put on a half smile for the sign and the homeless man smiled back.
This homeless guy, doesn't know me, I don't know him, yet his two words impacted me so much. Such two little words can brighten up someones day. When I half smiled at him, it seemed to lighten his spirits. Someone who has less than me and a smile made their day. At least that it how it felt anyways.
Need smiles . . . everyone needs to learn how to just smile. When I am not smiling I have a natural frown, so I know why he flipped his sign for me. It wasn't just for him, but for me. I didn't get his picture, but his 2 words will stay in my head day to day forever. I hope sharing this story with you means his 2 words stays with you as well.
